Household poverty rates of Puerto Ricans in the United States (20.4%), in Connecticut (27%) and in Puerto Rico (48.5%) are significantly higher than most other households in the nation. The 2nd Annual Puerto Rico|Puerto Ricans in Connecticut summit will examine key economic questions and federal policies that exacerbate poverty and other inequalities, while launching new efforts to address these and other challenges. Day one, 20 March 2026 will provide a daylong series of panels that will explain various dimensions of the Puerto Rican economy, including a discussion of the economic contributions of Puerto Rican workers, trade data between Puerto Rico and Connecticut, and emerging federal policies affecting Puerto Rico’s economy. Day 2, 21 March 2025, will provide an overview of the impact of key federal policies in the lives of Puerto Ricans in Connecticut. Central to the summit is launching initiatives that can help strengthen Puerto Rico’s economy and the economic conditions of Puerto Ricans in Connecticut. The CT Puerto Rican and Latino Legislative Caucus will also sponsor a special event during this time.
