El Instituto
University of Connecticut
On behalf of the Puerto Rico Research Hub at the University of Central Florida, CENTRO, the Center for Puerto Rican Studies, and the University of Connecticut’s Puerto Rican Studies Initiative (PRSI), we invite you to participate in our inaugural Puerto Rican Studies Data and Public Policy Research Hub Summit. This summit is a result of a previous panel we participated in, along with CENTRO, during the National Puerto Rican Agenda Biennial National Convention. In that panel it became apparent that, although there are several sources of data, research, and policy documents, there is no centralized repository to inform public policy with relation to Puerto Rican issues both stateside and on the archipelago. Likewise, we also realize the need to harmonize our data.
The purpose of the summit is to begin a conversation with different sectors of the Puerto Rican community that shape public policy decisions including academic centers, elected officials, media and non-profit groups. For this initial conversation we concentrate on representatives from Puerto Rico, New York, Florida, Connecticut, but also other-at- large Puerto Rican population communities. Our vision is to expand our dialogue in the future beyond these initial places.
We are interested in your opinions about the following three questions:
- What data about Puerto Rico and Puerto Ricans is useful to you and other elected officials?
- What is the best way that we can make this data available to you and the public at large?
- What is the best way that we can use this data to generate reports and other information for you and other elected officials?
This summit/meeting will be organized in the following manner:
